Making science work for development

International development recognition in the New Year's Honours list

We would like to congratulate all those in the 2016 New Year's Honours list from UKCDS member and other organisations that have been recognised for their efforts towards international development.

These include:

  • Prof David Mackay – former Chief Scientific Advisor of the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC)
  • Dr Ian Viney – Director of Strategic Evaluation and Impact at the Medical research Council (MRC)
  • Rowan Douglas – CEO of Capital, Science and Policy Practice at Willis Group
  • Simon Trace - Chief Executive Officer of Practical Action

In addition, a number of people were recognised for their roles in tackling the response to Ebola. From the Department for International Development (DFID) these included three staff based in Sierra Leone. These were Kate Foster, senior humanitarian adviser; Edward Davis, education advisor; and Grace Jackson, Sierra Leone programme manager.
